Green Fins Implementation
I’ve been a Green Fins assessor since 2015, trained by The Reef-World Foundation. Reef-World is the international coordinator of the UN Environment Programme’s Green Fins initiative, which focuses on driving environmentally friendly scuba diving and snorkelling practices across the industry globally.
Green Fins is present in 13 countries, I supported training and capacity building for Green Fins in the Philippines, Palau and most recently in Costa Rica. The first country in continental Americas to have implemented Green Fins. Training in total 77 government staff as Green Fins assessors/ coordinators and carried out more than 35 Green Fins dive and snorkel environmental assessments across different tourism hotspots in the Philippines, Palau, Costa Rica and Panama.
Being involved in the training and assessment process is essential for my work in creating and innovating new materials and communication channels. It brings me closer to the reality of the industry and the needs of those working in the ocean every day.
