Ship to Shore YouTube live session: eXXpedition & RV Falkor Crew

The crew of the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s RV Falkor, who are currently out at sea mapping the seabed floor as part of ’Seabed 2030’ from Tasman and the Coral Sea off of Queensland coast, organised a live session with eXXpedition to share about each program, discuss plastics research, and explore ways to raise awareness for the problem and inspire action.

I was honoured to be invited as an Ambassador to share my perspective as an artist and designer in the world of conservation and about my experience at sea. I really enjoyed being part of this conversation with such a group of passionate women who are using the power in their hands to protect our oceans! Thanks to eXXpedition for the invitation, very proud and humbled to be an Ambassador.

Here are some highlights as shared on eXX’s social media:

  • Dr Winnie Courtene Jones and Dr Derya Gurer compared the differences in microplastic samples found on SV TravelEdge versus RV Falkor’s missions.

  • eXXpedition ambassador and artist Juliana Corrales and Artist-at-Sea Jessica Leitmais talked about how our interactions with art can help to create dialogue around the ocean.

  • Our co-founder, Emily, took us through the SHiFT platform and how we can use storytelling back on land to help tackle the problem at sea!
